The route starts at the Sanctuary of the Madonna degli Angeli in Pantano and climbs towards Pignola, passing through its charming historic centre. It continues through oak and beech woods, crosses the Rifreddo Pass and passes through picturesque countryside, until it reaches Anzi and Monte Siri, where the views and the frescoes of the Madonna della Seta make the effort well worth it [27.1 km].

The route starts from the square in Calvello, overlooked by the complex of Santa Maria De Plano. After the climb, the countryside opens up before you, with mountains on the horizon and centuries-old oak and beech woods lining the path. At Lake Marsico Nuovo there is a spring where you can refresh yourself, and you continue in silence as far as Sasso di Castalda. In Brienza, the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli reveals an unexpected marvel [28.8 km].

From the Sanctuary of the Black Madonna of Viggiano, suspended between sky and summit, the path winds down through ridges and beech woods, where kites and hawks dance in the air. Ancient clearings tell tales of shepherds and flocks, springs refresh weary travellers, and views of the Agri Valley and villages carved into the rock captivate the eye. Amidst silence, light and millennia-old memories, you reach Marsico Nuovo [20.5 km].

From Sacro Monte di Viggiano, the path winds its way through light and silence, with the valley stretching out endlessly before you. Amidst fountains, monumental beech trees and shaded paths, the woodland offers respite and wonder in the Abetina forest of Laurenzana. Then come the countryside, the first houses, and finally Laurenzana, the village perched on the cliff: the castle and the church stand out like a timeless vision [22.7 km].

From Sarconi, the route winds its way through waterways and fields, past ancient mills and open paths, where the light caresses the hills. It climbs towards small, perched sanctuaries and then stretches out across pastures and silence, with mountains on the horizon. Cool streams, sweeping views and, finally, the thrill of the Tibetan Bridge at Castelsaraceno, which spans the Raganello gorges [21.7 km].

From Fontana Sambuco, a key junction on the Sentiero Italia trail, the path unfolds amidst light and silence, climbing towards higher ground where the air grows crisp and the view stretches out between Raparo and Pollino. Amidst pastures, ancient beech woods and rushing streams, nature envelops every step. Then comes the descent through valleys and memories, down to San Martino d’Agri, suspended between sky and rock [17.8 km].

From San Martino d’Agri, the route continues along ancient stone steps, skirting the Trigella stream – home to old mills – and passing through woods and quiet riverbanks, where nature reveals itself in an intimate and surprising way. Then the Murge di Sant’Oronzio emerge like visions, guardians of the valley, whilst the path climbs gently towards Gallicchio, amidst light and memory [15.9 km].

From the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Montauro, the route winds its way through open meadows and gentle slopes fragrant with broom. The view stretches out over the Agri Valley and the blue waters of Lake Pertusillo. The path leads first to the Chapel of the Madonna dei Termini in Spinoso, a place of deep devotion, and then, through fields and across vast horizons, to Spinoso, a cosy and sunny village [13.8 km]. 

From Monte Sacro in Viggiano, the path descends along the ancient sheep track of Monte Augustella, in a magical and otherworldly atmosphere. The valley opens up, amidst fields and streams, whilst the pace slows to a gentle stroll and the eye is drawn to the imposing Sorgitoria spring of the aqueduct. Then comes the climb through the dense woodland, amongst ferns and beech trees, up to Padula, cradle of an ancient history [32.83 km].
